Joseph P. Filicetti

Founding Attorney

Joseph P. Filicetti takes pride in representing good people who find themselves in bad situations. Accomplishments

 
  • Drafted, lobbied and passed Idaho Code § 37-2732B, Idaho’s Drug Trafficking mandatory minimum legislation, during 1992 Legislative Session, as well as over 40 other pieces of legislation during the 1993, 1994, and 1995 Sessions, including Stalking and Felony Eluding
  • Contributed to numerous pieces of legislation between 1996 – 1998, including the Non-Use of Public School Tax Credit
  • Founded and chaired the Ada County Domestic Violence Work Group, a law enforcement group which addressed domestic violence investigation/prosecution that resulted in changes in investigation and prosecution protocol
  • Founded and chaired the Law Enforcement Legislative Council (L.E.L.C.), an organization comprised of law enforcement lobbying entities including the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, Idaho Sheriffs’ Association, Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association, and others
  • Tried State v. Meraz, Idaho’s first drug trafficking case, with sentence of life with 20 years fixed
  • Tried State v. Hyde, a 72-count armed robbery case for the Jehovah’s Witness robbery, with sentence of life with 20 years fixed
  • Represented Payette County Deputy Scott Sloan who was criminally charged for felony vehicular manslaughter in a line of duty crash. The case was dismissed after 18 months of litigation, one month prior to jury trial.
  • Idaho Fraternal Order of Police State Legal Counsel, 1999-2020
  • Represented hundreds of law enforcement officers in critical incidents

Matthew Lovell

Partner

Matthew Lovell is a native Idahoan, raised on a potato farm in Ririe, Idaho. Matt moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 2005 and began his career in law enforcement with the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office. While working there, he attained the rank of Detective Sergeant. While serving at the Sheriff’s Office, Matt was a firearms, use of force, and SWAT Tactics instructor. He was also a member of the Southeast Idaho Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team throughout most of his career, and eventually was chosen by his team to be an Entry-Team Leader. Matt specialized in narcotics interdiction and then narcotics enforcement throughout most of his law enforcement career. Matt always strived to maintain a growth mindset, so he attended college while working full-time for the Sheriff’s Office. Matt attended Concordia University School of Law, then the University of Idaho College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate. Matt worked for the Idaho Attorney General’s Office as a research assistant during law school and then as a Deputy Attorney General upon passing the bar exam. Matt’s heart has always been in law enforcement defense, so in the fall of 2023, Matt joined Joe Filicetti and currently practices police defense with him. Matt is an active member of the Idaho State Bar, and the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association. Matt currently handles cases in police defense, criminal defense, employment law, and limited estate planning. When Matt is not at the office, he enjoys his time with his best friend Janette, and their three teenagers that seem to keep them busy.

Peter Krantz

Intern

After serving in the United States Coast Guard, Peter was employed as a certified law enforcement officer in both California and Idaho. During his time as an officer, he developed several areas of expertise. He was certified by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) Instructor. He was recognized for his proficiency in DUI investigations as well as for assisting fellow officers in learning how to properly investigate and prosecute impaired drivers. Peter was also honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for his efforts in arresting impaired drivers. Peter was also recognized by the CHP for his efforts in locating and recovering stolen vehicles, receiving the prestigious “10851” award.

 

Peter also was a Detective in the Gang Unit as a member of the Buena Park Police Department’s Community Impact Team. He was responsible for both gang suppression patrols in the community, writing and serving search warrants, facilitating prosecution of gang members and gang-related crime, as well as community engagement activity. Peter was also involved heavily in the Gang Reduction Intervention Program (GRIP), which focuses on identifying youths at-risk for being involved with gangs and working with them to prevent and reduce gang membership and gang violence.

 

After moving to Idaho in 2021, Peter briefly worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office before leaving to attend law school. Peter is currently a J.D. Candidate at the University of Idaho College of Law, Class of 2025, with an expected graduation date of May 2025.
